* Three grandsons of late Romy de Castro and Nandy De Castro are recent graduates: Glenn, Jr. (MSME at Santa Clara University), Dexter (BS BMED at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo), and Zachary (Moreau Catholic High School). The three are sons of Glenn and Lisa De Castro.

* Damarien Ilano-Tenorio is an eighth grade graduate at Egan Middle School. He is the son of Daryk and Bessie Ilano-Tenorio and grandson of board member Carlos and Belen Ilano.

NEWS from Imus

His Excellency, the Most Reverend Luis Antonio G. Tagle who was then Bishop of Imus, the Parish Pastoral Council of Imus, and the Team Ministry of the Our Lady of the Pillar Parish headed by Moderator Rev. Fr. Allan C. Valero, petitioned the Canonical Coronation of the Image of Our Lady of the Pillar.  Consequently His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI approved the Canonical Coronation of the venerated Image of Our Lady of the Pillar on May 11, 2011 so that it may be crowned under His Name and Authority. The solemn act of Canonical Coronation of the image occurred on NOVEMBER 26, 2012. It coincided with the closing ceremony of the Golden Jubilee of the Diocese of Imus.

Swiss Park in Newark is venue for October 12 undertaking; shoe drive, other fund-raisers set for remainder of the year

ICANC will celebrate its 34th anniversary and hometown Imus’s barrio fiesta with a mass, karaoke and other game contests, and barbecue lunch on Saturday, October 12, according the association president Christine Quiambao. Additional entertainment will be provided by the SOB band (courtesy of Lorna Raagas-Veluz).

According the Ms. Quiambao, registration and camaraderie begins at 10 AM at the park picnic ground, followed by a mass at 11 AM for Our Lady of the Pillar to be officiated by Fr. Ronnie Carreon.

Activities after the mass will be conducted by Lisa Ayran (prayer), Christine Quiambao (opening remarks), and Rebecca Quintana, Maryel Veluz, and Kyla Veluz (entertainment, games and raffle).

ICANC will elect officers who will lead the association in the next two years following the raffle. Closing remarks will be delivered by Lisa Ayran.

Meanwhile, Ms. Quiambao appealed for support of nonprofit ICANC’s fund-raising efforts. Sponsors of ICANC’s scholarships and other charity programs are requested to donate to the ICANC fund as follows: Platinum Sponsors - $300 and more; Gold Sponsors - $200; Silver Sponsors - $100; Bronze Sponsors - $50.00; and Friends/Supporters - $20. Make donation checks payable to ICANC and mail to 27472 Hayward Blvd., Hayward, CA 94542.

During the anniversary and fiesta celebration, ICANC will be collecting shoes in a shoe drive to benefit the students of the Bucandala Public High School in Cavite. All donated items will be shipped free to the Philippines courtesy of UMAC Express Cargo.

Puntero, Abad, Ipapo, Bajada spearhead casino fund-raiser trip

Red Hawk Casino Trip - 8-24-13ICANC’s second fund-raiser casino trip for 2013 took place Saturday, August 24. The trip to Red Hawk Casino was led by past president Jun Puntero.

In addition to Jun Puntero, ICANC director Joy Abad, auditor Amor Ipapo, and treasurer Ester Bajada spearheaded the trip to assure its success.

109 members and their guests at 34th anniversary dinner help promote association’s scholarships and other charities

At the ICANC 34th Anniversary Diiner & DanceA total of 109 members and their guests attended ICANC’s 34th Anniversary Dinner & Dance held at the World Gourmet Buffet Restaurant in Fremont on Saturday, June 29.

ICANC was founded on October 12, 1979 at the Saint Patrick’s Church in San Francisco.

Highlight of the event was a presentation of ICANC’s34th Anniversary Attendees history that followed the singing of both the U.S. and Philippine national anthems as well as a raffle of valuable prizes.

Music was provided by Orly Marquez.

The night’s program was emceed by Jun Puntero who also welcomed members and their guests. An invocation was conducted by association vice president Lisa P. Ayran. ICANC president Christine Joy Bajada Quiambao and vice president Ayran discussed the association’s history, charity work, and plans for the future.

The dance program included demonstrations by Roland Ditan’s Line Dance ensemble.

A souvenir program that contained valuable information about ICANC and its charitable works was distributed to all that attended the event.

ICANC president Quiambao announced that proceeds from the anniversary celebration will benefit ICANC’s 10 high school scholars - who are currently in their senior year at Imus, Cavite schools - as well as other ICANC charities in the town of Imus, Cavite, Philippines.

Red Hawk casino trip is first fundraiser event for 2013

ICANC’s first fundraiser for 2013 was a Red Hawk casino trip which took place on Saturday, February 23, 2013.

Hailed as a success, the event raised funds for ICANC’s scholarship programs in Imus, Cavite.

2012BarrioFiesta-275ICANC president Christine Quiambao announced the successful staging of the association’s 2012 Annual Fiesta last Saturday, October 6, 2012 at the Swiss Park in Newark. Gifts were handed out to the first 30 registered participants.

The Fiesta featured an 11:00 AM mass followed by Karakol, a luncheon, music and other entertainment, a raffle, and games for young and old.

Donations to ICANC’s 2012 Toy Drive (see two related stories below) were also accepted at the event.

AIYDF, ICANC team up in Christmas toy drive for Imus kids

In conjunction with Filipino American International Youth Development Foundation (AIYDF) headed by Mr. Howell Felix, ICANC staged a Toy Drive for the needy children of Imus (see related story below). Donations of new or slightly used toys were delivered to ICANC mostly during the October 6, 2012 Barrio Fiesta held in Newark, according ICANC president Christine Quiambao.

All toys collected during months-long campaign were shipped to the Philippines for distribution to Imus children during the 2012 Christmas season. Shipping door-to-door was provided free by Forex Cargo, the nation’s leading door-to-door cargo service to the Philippines.

Lions Club distributes toys raised by ICANC to Imus children

2012SmasGiftDistribution-250In a letter to ICANC president Christine Quiambao, the Imus Lions Club announced the successful distribution of hundreds of toys to the needy children of Imus, Cavite on December 8, 2012. The toys were shipped to the Philippines compliments of Forex Cargo.

According to Imus Lions Club past president and current secretary Aisa Remulla, the event brought happiness to dozens of children and their families.

The toys drive and gift distribution was a joint venture between the Imus Cavite Association of Northern California (ICANC), the Filipino American International Youth Development Foundation (AIYDF), the Imus Lions Club, the Philippine Self-Help Missions, Inc., and the City of Imus, Cavite.

50 join Casino trip to raise funds for Imus scholarships

Red Hawk Casino Trip - 8-18-12More than 50 Imuseņos and their friends crammed the bus on a trip to the Red Hawk Casino last August 18, 2012 to raise money for ICANC’s scholarship fund, according to President Christine Quiambao.

Treasurer Ester Bajada donates birthday gifts to ICANC scholarship fund

It was not just that ICANC treasurer Ester Bajada celebrated her 70th birthday -- a milestone in itself -- but that she donated all of the $920 in gifts she received from friends, relatives, and ICANC members to the ICANC scholarship fund.

The ICANC scholarship fund benefits needy students from the town of Imus, Cavite, in the Philippines.

Ms. Bajada’s 70th birthday was celebrated last December 23, 2011 at the Hayward home of ICANC president Christine Joy B. Quiambao.
